ACL Reconstruction
What really happens during an ACL reconstruction? Yorkshire Knee Clinic’s Dave Duffy takes a camera into the heart of an operation to explain.
What Does An ACL Reconstruction Look Like?
A torn anterior cruciate ligament can lead to severe pain, rapid swelling and a feeling of instability within the knee. Reconstruction is an extremely effective form of treatment – but what does that involve exactly?
In this short (2m25s) video, Dave Duffy takes a camera into an arthroscopic (keyhole) ACL reconstruction to explore the process.
Notes for the squeamish: This video features footage from an operation.
• There is no blood – you will see the off-white surfaces of the femur, tibia and the ligament.
• The video also includes the removal of loose pieces of ligament and the drilling of new tunnels for the ligament graft. Again, this is all blood-free.
