Dave Duffy

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon & District NHS Foundation Trust

“Mr Duffy is a wonderful knee surgeon but he’s a very approachable guy as well… That makes a huge difference.”

Jean Drake,
YKC patient.

Dave Duffy is a specialist knee surgeon with particular expertise in sports injuries and knee replacement surgery. He has extensive experience in performing ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery and knee replacements.

A particular interest for joint replacement surgery is partial knee replacement. He is one of only 5% of UK knee surgeons who performs more than 50 of this type of procedure per year. Read Dave’s surgeon profile on the National Joint Registry.

Dave’s practice is based in Harrogate (where he is currently the Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics) and Leeds.

His approach is directed at identifying the underlying cause to any knee pathology. This enables a treatment plan to address all aspects of knee function in order to optimise the results of treatment. The support of specialist physiotherapists, plus swift and high quality investigations help to achieve this goal.

At The Heart of Dave’s Practice Is a Commitment To Patient Communication & Care

Providing a clear and concise explanation of the diagnosis – something that should be taken for granted – plus all the treatment options available and their goals is a fundamental part of patient satisfaction.

Having close links with high calibre specialist health professionals (Radiologists & Physiotherapists) is essential for this bespoke and holistic approach.

Dave Duffy trained at Newcastle University

Dave studied Medicine at Newcastle University. After graduation, he spent a number of years working in Australia. Part of this period was in the outback of Queensland and worked in the Emergency Department of the mining town of Mount Isa.

From here he ventured to the isolated Aboriginal reserves of Mornington Island (off the north coast of Australia) and Doomage as the lone medical practitioner – a true life-changing experience.

Following further Intensive Care training in Brisbane he returned to the UK to pursue his passion for Orthopaedic Surgery and undertook specialist training in Yorkshire.

His expertise in knee surgery was gained from renowned UK & Australian fellowship posts:

  • Harrogate with Prof. Nick London (knee replacement, arthroscopy and knee ligament reconstruction)
  • Leeds with Mr Stuart Calder (knee replacement, arthroscopy and knee ligament reconstruction)
  • Australia (Brisbane Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Clinic). Working with leading knee surgeons, Dr Peter Myers and Dr Peter McMeniman, where he gained experience in treating elite sports athletes

He worked as a Consultant at Wrightington Hospital Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence, before moving to Harrogate in 2011.
