Dave is currently the lead surgeon for acute knee Injuries at Harrogate District Hospital and has successfully treated many professional athletes. He has performed thousands of arthroscopic procedures (ACL reconstruction and meniscal surgery) throughout his career. His approach is directed at diagnosing the extent of a new injury quickly. Being able to start treatment early, especially for conditions where this is time critical, is essential to achieving the best result. The support of specialist physiotherapists, plus swift and high quality investigations help to achieve this goal.
A significant part of his practice is the management of arthritis of the knee and he treats a high volume of patients. According to current National Joint Registry data, he performs almost double the number of total knee replacements each year relative to the national average and more than four times the average number of partial knee replacements.

Dave studied Medicine at Newcastle University. After graduation, he spent a number of years working in Australia. Part of this period was in the outback of Queensland where he worked in the Emergency Department of the mining town of Mount Isa.
From here he ventured to the isolated indigenous Australian reserves of Mornington Island (off the north coast of Australia) and Doomage as the lone medical practitioner – a true life-changing experience.
Following further intensive care training in Brisbane he returned to the UK to pursue his passion for orthopaedic surgery and undertook specialist training in Yorkshire.
His expertise in knee surgery was gained from renowned fellowship posts in the UK & Australia:
- Harrogate with Prof. Nick London (knee replacement, arthroscopy and knee ligament reconstruction)
- Leeds with Mr Stuart Calder (knee replacement, arthroscopy and knee ligament reconstruction)
- Australia (Brisbane Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Clinic). Working with leading knee surgeons, Dr Peter Myers and Dr Peter McMeniman, where he gained experience in treating elite sports athletes
Dave maintains an active interest in education and is a clinical supervisor for junior doctors.
He is a regular faculty member who teaches on national and international ligament reconstruction and partial knee replacement surgery courses for orthopaedic surgeons.
