What to Expect from your Leeds Sports Injury Clinic

Suffered a sporting knee injury? For faster diagnosis and a fuller recovery, talk to the knee surgeons for Leeds at Yorkshire Knee Clinic.

If you’ve suffered a sporting knee injury, speed matters. The quicker the diagnosis the faster the treatment, and the greater likelihood you’ll make a more complete recovery. Delay, and you could find that your knee function is never quite what it was.

Here’s what to expect when you attend our sports injury clinic in Leeds.

Making your first appointment

In most instances, your appointment at our Leeds sports injury clinic will be made following a referral from your GP, physiotherapist or other specialist. If you can, please bring their referral letter with you.

If you’ll be paying of your treatment using some form of private health insurance, please bring those details with you too.

Diagnosis

A Yorkshire Knee Clinic knee consultant will examine your injury and diagnose the problem. Often an external examination may be enough to identify the issue, but further analysis, by x-ray, MRI scan may be required.

Treatment

Once diagnosed, your Leeds knee surgeon will decide on the best form of treatment. That doesn’t always mean knee surgery – often RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) can resolve the problem and physiotherapy may be an appropriate course of action.

Where knee surgery is required to correct a sports injury, your consultant will explain the procedure and the optimal recovery process.

Pre and post-op

Every committed sportsperson we treat wants to return to the track/pitch/slope fast, but our knee surgeons want to ensure that, when you do recommence the sport you love, the knee (or your opposite knee) doesn’t break down again. That’s why we recommend staying fit, healthy and as active as you can before your operation (talk to us about the activities it’s safe to pursue), and that you follow our post-operative recovery plan closely. It’s always tempting to try to do more, faster, but try and stick to your Leeds knee doctor’s advice and you’ll make a more complete recovery and lessen the risk of re-injury.
