The surgeon’s knee surgeon
“Humbled and honoured”: Yorkshire Knee Clinic’s Nick London reflects on being named in a national top 10 of knee replacement surgeons.
Recently, you may have seen a piece in the Daily Mail which sought to find the UK’s top knee surgeons. The online article included Yorkshire Knee Clinic’s Prof. Nick London and, if you happened to have caught the print version, you’ll have seen that Nick was one of the most prominently featured surgeons.
What was particularly notable about the article was that this wasn’t a data-crunching exercise, or even a survey of patients, impressive as both would have been. Rather it was a survey of other surgeons who were asked the question ‘Who would you want to treat members of your family?’
Here, Nick reflects on the article and in typical fashion is quick to stress that you don’t win accolades like this without a large and hugely capable team alongside you:
“I feel very humble, and absolutely honoured, not so much because I’ve been named in a national top 10, but because this has been calculated through recommendations by my colleagues.”
“I really must stress, however, that this is far more than a personal accolade – it’s a reflection of the entire team at the Yorkshire Knee Clinic and the hospitals where I am fortunate to work – Harrogate District (NHS Trust), The Duchy BMI and Nuffield Health Leeds. From the initial assessment, to the operating theatre environment; ward environment, physiotherapy, outpatients and more, it’s an acknowledgement of a team that deserves huge recognition.”
“Whether they are being treated privately or on the NHS, the outcomes for every patient are determined not just by me, but by the people I work with – and I’ve been very fortunate to work with such passionate, accomplished and caring professionals.”
