Yorkshire Knee Clinic’s surgeons have announced a webinar to help GPs and physiotherapists as they continue to support patients with knee pain until elective surgery resumes.
The postponement of elective surgeries has left a significant number of patients living with knee pain for far longer than we and they would have preferred. Yet even as surgery resumes, the capacity of the system to manage the backlog, combined with apparent patient reluctance to seek help as a result of coronavirus fears, means many more patients may be delaying presenting symptoms.
To help clinicians who have been supporting patients with knee pain until planned surgery and regular consultations can resume, the knee surgeons of Yorkshire Knee Clinic are hosting a one hour webinar at 7.00pm on Wednesday 10 June in association with Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital.

The free session will provide advice for clinicians dealing with knee injuries/conditions in the post-COVID landscape and offer guidance on the following:
- Restarting elective knee surgery in the current climate
- The impact of COVID-19 on waiting times and risk to patients
- Managing acute knee injuries and current pathways
- Managing knee OA in the short and medium term
- Referral procedures
Nick London will consider the impact of delayed treatment on injuries and OA, emphasising the importance of clear diagnosis in enabling treatment plans to minimise the effects of delays. He will also explore the opportunities for patients to optimise themselves for surgery.
Dave Duffy will address acute knee injuries and explore the signs and symptoms that indicate urgent attention is required.
Jim Newman will examine new ways of working with new patients – in particular the potential for digital consultations to enable appropriate investigations at first appointment stage.
The session will conclude with a 20 minute Q&A enabling clinicians to have their questions answered.
